Design and Technology
Design and technology aims to produce creative problem-solvers who are able to use everyday materials to solve problems.
It helps them to realise in technology there can be many different solutions and that if they persevere it is possible to find them.
We aim to encourage and develop these skills through the process of identifying a need, designing a solution, building an artefact and testing and evaluating it.
Design technology is taught throughout the school. It beings in Reception when they explore things for themselves, find out how things work and build for different reasons, moving in key stages 1 and 2 where we link it into our topic for the term. This makes it relevant to the pupils, and allows them to use technology for a purpose. The pupils look at examples others have made, examine how they work, design their own, write instructions, make and finally evaluate the finished product.
