Mozart - Reception Class

Mozart Class - Term 1

This half term our topic is All About Me. Each week we look at a one of our favorite stories and carry out a range of activities based on our book.

Everyday the children will learn a new sound in phonics. Phonics supports the children in identifying letter sounds, blending sounds together to make words, reading and writing. Please encourage your children to find letters and sounds they know at home- every little helps!

We will be completing a range of subjects including PD, Art, Understanding the World and Maths. Mozart and Picasso class need to wear PE kit every Friday.

Home Learning will be sent out on a Friday and needs to return to school by the following Thursday- stickers will be rewarded to children who complete fantastic learning. Our homework is set out on a grid with lots of tasks so the children can pick which task they would like to do each week.

Children will begin to start receiving a reading book that they can take home and will get changed two times a week. Its is important for children to read at home at least 3 times a week to support their writing in school and to help their imagination and it only takes 5 minutes! The staff read with every child once a week at least but we need your continued support to help our children achieve. Please record all books you read, not just the school books!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Week commencing: Monday 18th September

Thank you so much for bringing in all of your lovely family pictures for homework, the children have really enjoyed sharing them. This week in topic we will be thinking all about our families and the children will all have the opportunity to talk about them.

In maths we are continuing to work on our recognition of numbers to 10 and then to 20. We are focusing on the children being able to recognise the numerals out of order and then be able to put them back into the correct place on the number line.

The children have loved joining in with this counting song in school and thought you might enjoy it at home as well.

Week commencing: Monday 25th September

Thank you for another fantastic week. The children are coming in confidently and settling nicely into the school routine. Thank you for all your support with this.

Enrichment is a chance for the children to take part in different enriching experiences that are not always included in the school curriculum.  They take place every Friday afternoon and your children have already chosen their activity for this term in class. They will get a chance to choose a new activity every term.

This week in English we will be practicing sounding and writing CVC words. E.G:

Can we please remind parents that children should only have water in their water bottles in class.

Week commencing: Monday 2nd October

This week we are starting our new topic 'People who help us.' Our new story in English, 'Emergency',  is linked to this. In class the children will be drawing and making emergency vehicles and buildings and our new role plays are a hospital and post office.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   This week we will begin learning all about 2D shapes. The children already love singing this song at home, it would be lovely if they could share it at home with you as well. We will be thinking about the names of the shapes and how many straight and curved sides they have.                  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHECKING FOR LETTERS INSIDE YOUR CHILDS BOOKBAG EVERYDAY.

Week commencing: Monday 5th October

This week we will be continuing learning all about 2D shapes. The children will become detectives and will search for 2D shapes that can be found on everyday objects around the classroom. Again our aim will be getting the children to recognise, name and describe some of the properties of 2D shapes.

This week in English we will be using our phonological knowledge to segment and write the initial sounds in words. Our English work will continue to be linked to our class book 'Emergency' by Margaret Mayo.

Week commencing: Monday 16th October

It's the final week of our first term in primary school and we have enjoyed every second of learning this term! This week may only be three days long but we will still be squeezing lots of learning into it. In English this week we will be thinking all about autumn and we will be going on a autumn hunt around the school and thinking about the language we can use to describe what we see.

Wednesday Morning the whole school will be walking to St Chads church to participate in the harvest festival service. Reception will be singing 'Round the mulberry Bush'. They have been practicing everyday and it would be lovely if parents could come and join us for the service. We are still looking for parent helpers to walk with us to and from the church. Please let us know on the door before or after school (unfortunately we cannot accept walkers with pushchairs/younger children. but you are still more than welcome to join us at the service)

School will be closed on these days
