Welcome to Term 3 in Ali Class.
This term our Topic is Around The World In A Day in which we will be focusing on the following:-
Geography: during our Topic we will be exploring atlases to investigate the sort of information they contain. We will use this to ask and answer questions which will help us develop our understanding of the world around us from far away countries and continents to considering what we know about the area we live in and how it compares with other places around the world. We will also be taste testing bread and fruit from around the world and therefore need to know whether your Year 2 child has any allergies. Our learning in Geography will link closely to our subject knowledge development in Science.
Science: during this term we will be looking at animals, adaptation and how they are suited to their habitats. This will link closely with our Geographical investigations and will help us understand how animals have evolved to survive successfully where they live, including looking at food chains and how different animals are found in different parts of the world. The final week of term will also focus on Science based learning throughout the week.
DT: towards the end of the term we will be using our understanding of joining materials and animal habitats to design and build a habitat (or a model of one!) for a specific animal.
PE: our PE days are Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school on both of these days. It is appropriate, if you wish, for them to leave their kits in a named bag on their pegs throughout the week and take them home on Fridays. Please ensure all PE kit (including daps/trainers) is named clearly as well as the bag the kit is in.
Computing: this term we will be starting to develop our understanding of presentation and oracy skills by showing what we know through both filming and recording on iPads.
English: our first book of the term is The Lonely Beast which will help us to develop our story telling and narrative techniques in English. This also links to our Geographical vocabulary learning and the Personal, Social and Health Education work we will be doing in Year 2 this term. We will then be shifting our focus to non-fiction writing, looking at explanation texts with a view to writing our own explanation text based on our learning in Science.
Maths: throughout this term we will first be developing our understanding of fractions (1/2, 1/4, 3/4, 1/3 and 1 whole) which will include using our multiplication and division knowledge and then further use our place value and calculation skills towards the end of term when we start exploring 'measure' (length, capacity and time).
