Callicroft Primary Academy

Term 1

After a fantastic first week, where we started our new topic 'War and Peace' and our new Power of Reading book - The Savage. This week in Maths, our focus is place value and identify the digits up to 6 figures, as well as ordering numbers to 100,000 and rounding numbers within 100,000. In English we are building up he skills to write a newspaper. We start Monday afternoon understanding the Christmas Truce and the influence of propaganda during World War 1.

Week 3

This week is a very busy week for our class. In Maths we are focusing on multiplication and division skills. We finished last week looking at place value and adding 5-digit numbers together. We start this week subtracting up to 5-digit and then moving into multiplication. In English we are planning, drafting, editing and publishing our newspaper's about the sighting of the Savage. Our afternoons consist of art on Monday and completing our propaganda artwork, and then looking ar life on the frontline and trenches in history on Tuesday. We have dance on Wednesday, PE on Thursday and Music. The week finishes with our first afternoon of Enrichment (remember - this will now happen every week)!

Week 4

Another week has been completed and the children worked extremely hard. this week we are continuing with multiplication and division and developing our skills around multiplying a three-digit number by a one and two digit number. In English, we are starting a brand new Power of Reading book, so I wont give too much away but the only clue I will give you is that it links to our topic well. Tomorrow afternoon, we are looking at the Battle of the Somme and the purpose of the poppy. Tuesday we are making our Christmas Cards, yes that's right Christmas cards!

Week 5

Well, I can't believe it is October, where did September go? This week we will be writing and publishing a diary entry as if we are a child in World War 1, thinking about emotional and actions. In Maths, our focus for the last 5 days has been multiplication we are now moving onto division. In topic this week, we are continuing with animations in ICT and investigating how soldiers communicated with their families during the first World War.

Week 6

Welcome to the penultimate week of Term 1, where has this term gone? This week in Maths we are starting a new unit focusing on Statistics and how to read, draw and understand line graph followed by reading timetables. In English we are starting to construct and write our very flashback narrative based around our Power of Reading book and topic. Just a reminder that it is our class assembly on Wednesday at 9:10am - hope to see you there.

Week 7

The final 3 days! We will be finishing our Power of Reading book with writing a flashback narrative as a soldier in World War 1. In maths we are covering line graphs and how to answer timetables. We are having a big science afternoon and conducting an experiment using balloons. We have our last dance session on Wednesday. To finish off our week and term, we have our Harvest festival at church on Wednesday too.
