Reception Class- Term 3

At the end of last term we let the children decide their own topic for  the beginning of this term. So this term we are learning all about transport. Each week we will base our learning on a key text about transport.

The children will continue learning a new sound in phonics. This term we will continue to learn our phase 3 sounds from letters and sounds. Phonics supports the children in identifying letter sounds, blending sounds together to make words, reading and writing. Please encourage your children to find letters and sounds they know at home- every little helps!

We will be completing a range of subjects including PD, Art, Understanding the World and Maths. Mozart and Picasso class have PE every  Wednesday.  Children are now changing into their PE kit in school before the lesson. Their PE kit can stay in a bag on their peg and only needs to go home to be washed.

Home Learning will be sent out on a Friday and needs to return to school by the following Thursday- stickers will be rewarded to children who complete fantastic learning. Our homework is set out on a grid with lots of tasks so the children can pick which tas they would like to do each week.

Children will  receive a reading book that they can take home and will get changed two times a week. Its is important for children to read at home at least 3 times a week to support their writing in school and to help their imagination and it only takes 5 minutes! The staff read with every child at least once a week  but we need your continued support to help our children achieve. Please record all books you read, not just the school books!

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

 Week Beginning: 8th January 2018

Our class book this week is Mrs Armitage on wheels. We will start the week with a WOW moment to get the children excited about our new text. We will then be thinking about what we could do to adapt our own bikes and scooters to make them more practical just like Mrs Armitage.

In Maths this week the children will begin to think about addition. They will be counting two groups of items to find the total and then recording the answers on their whiteboards.

 Week Beginning: 22nd January 2018

We will all become photographers this week! Our new book 'Naughty Bus' has some lovely photos in it so we will be challenging the children to capture pictures around our classroom.(keep your eyes peeled as these will be uploaded to tapestry)

Continuing with our addition theme we will be helping the bus count how many passengers are on board. The children will use counting bears and numicon to add and find the total.

 Week Beginning: 29th January 2018

we have really enjoyed learning about addition the past few weeks and are excited to be beginning subtraction this week! The children will be given a bus and taking passengers off the bus to think about taking away.
