Columbus Term 3

Happy New Year and welcome back to Term 3. I hope you all had a restful break and made some lovely memories together.

This term is busy (as always!) but exciting. Keep an eye out for some key dates in the diary such as Year 6 Lifeskills trip and our Geography field trip.

This term our Topic is H20 and we will be learning about how Water plays a part in our world. We will be linking our English to our topic where possible using some high quality text to develop our writing skills.

In Maths, we will be learning about Decimals, Percentages and Algebra as well as revising skills in Fractions and the Four Operations.

This term PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday PE will be with Mr Smallwood and on Wednesday will be Dance with Miss Brown.

Please ensure PE kits are in school on these days. PE kit consists of plain black trainers, plain black jogging bottoms or shorts and a purple PE top.

Year 6 will have separate rooms to change in.

We will continue with our SATs 10 minute tests along with Prodigy and launching Read Theory. I will also be giving out some resources to support with Grammar revision.

Homework books need only be a note of what revision has been done if using online revision sites but the expectation is to ensure revision is completed alongside the 10 minute tests. Please also ensure the 10 minute tests are marked.

So you can check you are on the right tests, due in next week (11.01.18) are:

SPAG - Set B Spelling test
Maths - Set B, Test 4
Reading - Set B, Test 4

Year 6 Enterprise

As I am sure you have heard by now, this year the Magical Mystery Trip (no longer a mystery!) is to Harry Potter Studios.

For this, we ask the children to raise the funds as a team through a variety of enterprise ideas.
Children need to get approval for any events in school but are free to do any jobs at home or for family to contribute to this too.

Some ideas to consider:

- Bake sales

- Sponsored events

- Craft sales

- Chores at home

We appreciate your support with this as we hope that it will teach the children the value of working for something themselves. Of course, without the funds the trip cannot go ahead.

Thank you for your continued support and as always please feel free to see me with any queries.
